A meeting with professor Timothy Snyder – an ingenious humanist, the author of such bestsellers as “Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin”, “Black Earth: The Holocaust as History and Warning” or “On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century”.
At the panel “Lessons from the 20th century”, we will discuss the upcoming Polish edition of the historian’s most recent work “The Road to Unfreedom: Russia, Europe, America” (to be published by ZNAK in February 2019). You will be able to buy the author’s earlier books along with a special, new publication by Wydawnictwo UMCS dedicated to Prof. Snyder, edited by prof. Jan Pomorski.
Timothy David Snyder (b. 1969) – an American historian, Professor of History at Yale University, specializing in the history of Central and East Europe and contemporary nationalism. He has authored “The Reconstruction of Nations: Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Belarus, 1569-1999″, in which he examines the evolution of national consciousness in I Rzeczpospolita and its territories up until our times. Recipient of Jerzy Giedroyć Prize and Hannah Arendt Prize for Political Thought, among others.
