“Districts of Culture” is a long-term, interdisciplinary programme, which aims at increasing the cultural potential of twenty seven districts of Lublin. It  continues the process launched during the competition for the European Capital of Culture 2016.

The general idea of the project rests on the belief that culture, broadly defined as a process of creating and sharing values that engage every member of a city’s community, is the basic right of every human.  It is also necessary  in the process of creating modern civic society.

“Districts of Culture” also aims at challenging  the  strong  centralisation of cultural institutions and infrastructure which leads to increasing disproportion between several city areas in terms of access to culture.

Every action planned within the project will be based on the diagnosis of current situation.  endorsement of  existing cultural operators, enhancement of the quality and diversity of cultural offer, extension of the offer, activation of non-active and excluded groups.

Our goals are to increase active cultural participation and  raise cultural competences of the citizens of Lublin.

Proposed actions focus on four concepts – the core modules of “Districts of Culture”:

  • Lublin for kids

The strategic goal of this module  is to raise a generation of conscious recipients and creators of culture, who will have broad cultural and social competences along with an authentic need for active participation in local life.

  • Culture for Seniors

This module suports existing  Seniors’ Clubs,  intends to develop existing cultural offer and create new ones for the future. It also intends to promote activities that include the elderly in culture 2.0. The point  is to seek possibilities for exploiting the potential, knowledge and experience of the mature aged and to build intergenerational bridges, for instance through  encouraging active participation in voluntary and educational programmes.

  • Install: Culture

This module intends to widen the group of active cultural recipients to include people and groups, who for various reasons have not yet benefited from culture or benefitted only on occassion. Actions within this module  are addressed to two target groups:   those in danger of social exclusion and those who do not profit from cultural and educational offer – the most numerous groups among them are: junior high school students, high school students, teenagers and adults active professionally.

  • District Spaces for Cultural Education

This module will include  cyclical artistic workshops covering music, art, dance and theatre classes. Recurrent art classes that are well-fitted to age, interests and capacities of the participants will develop their creative expression, aesthetic sensibility, talents, interests along with individual and creative thinking.
